CentreTown Sound is owned and operated by Ottawa based musician James Shaheen.
With over 15 years of musical experience, James is a multifaceted artist, educator, event coordinator, and recognized member of his local community in Ottawa, Canada. James’ practice has been particularly broad; studying a range of instruments and styles, including: electric and acoustic guitar of all genres (rock, jazz, blues, fusion, folk, and improv). He has also studied classical and contemporary saxophones, as well as percussion, including: drum kit, orchestral percussion and West African drum and dance music.
Over the last decade and a half, James has studied and worked alongside some of the country's top musicians and music professionals. He earned his Bachelors of Music from Carleton University, where he focused on guitar performance, improv, music theory, and more.
As a technician, James specializes in electronics, rig building, and guitar repair. He built his first guitar at the age of 10 - which he still has, and says it sucks... but thankfully he's gotten a lot better since then. James is also a freelance live and studio audio engineer. His studio approach is getting a great product through authentic and unorthodox sound sources.
James is an active member in the Ottawa music scene as a member of the emerging hard-rock outfit The Space Between. He is the guitarist and a key musical contributor to the project, both creatively and professionally.
